This dominant theme in this issue is the electrification of the New Zealand fleet from passenger vehicles through to light commercials and light duty trucks.

As fuel costs rise, all fleets are seeking to derive as much efficiency as possible from the vehicle and the people operating it.

Teletrac Navman expert Chris L’Ecluse observes that a change in driving style through the use of technology can reap economic rewards.

From the Suzuki Swift with an integrated starter generator and a 10Ah lithium-ion battery to the fully electric LDV E Deliver 9 Cool Box, we cover the full gamut of electrified fleet vehicles this month.

Thanks to the implementation of the Government’s Clean Car strategy, local distributors have more leverage with their overseas parents to bring electrified vehicles to New Zealand.

Our principal sponsor FleetPartners co-hosted an Auckland EV showcase with Drive Electric in June, to bring customers and brands together as more and more fleets embark on electrification.

Chinese manufacturer BYD (Build Your Dreams) has appointed Ateco Group as its New Zealand distributor, and the brand will be headed here by Warren Willmot.

Willmot previously handled corporate accounts for Renault passenger and light commercial vehicles, and LDV and SsangYong for Great Lakes Motors Distribution Ltd.

He says initial BYD orders have far exceeded his expectations and that’s before the cars have even made it to dealers’ showrooms.
